Acupuncture for Low Back Pain

It is impossible to understand just how crippling lower back pain can be unless you suffer from it.

Until recently, the Western medical community's approach to chronic pain of any kind was heavily focused on drugs, which resulted in addiction and negative side effects for many patients.

Now, many of those same patients are turning to acupuncture for lower back pain and they are finding true relief from their chronic pain without drugs or side effects.

Over the past 20 years, the Western medical community has finally begun catching onto the use of acupuncture for chronic pain, especially lower back pain, and now many insurance companies cover most, and sometimes all, of the cost of acupuncture for lower back pain.

Acupuncture and Back Pain

Acupuncture for lower back pain is a more effective treatment model because a Chinese medical practitioner will see the pain in your lower back as merely a symptom of a larger, underlying problem.

They will attempt to treat the entire problem so that the patient has complete relief with no future occurrences of lower back pain.

Improvements in diet, exercise and daily routines may be suggested, as well as the use of an individualized herbal supplement.

This is in sharp contrast to the over abundance of prescription pain killers typically prescribed by more conventional forms of medicinal therapies.

Just as individuals differ greatly, so too will their acupuncture for lower back pain treatment.

Your acupuncturist will conduct a thorough assessment in order to help determine the underlying problem beneath the symptoms.

After the assessment is completed, an individualized treatment will be developed, including individualized herbal supplements, if deemed necessary by the practitioner.

Results with Acupuncture

Many patients undergoing acupuncture for lower back pain report feeling relief from symptoms after only a few sessions.

Almost all patients report feeling more relaxed, energized, and motivated after the first treatment session.

The number of sessions required differs greatly from patient to patient, depending on the severity of the lower back pain.

It is important to remember that in most instances, the pain did not appear overnight but built up gradually until it became nearly unbearable.

Therefore, it is not entirely realistic to expect the symptoms to be taken care of in only one or two half hour sessions.

Your acupuncturist will talk with you before beginning any treatment about the expected length and expected results of acupuncture for lower back pain treatment.
