Electro Acupuncture

Electro acupuncture is a fairly new treatment in the field of Chinese medicine, brought about as more and more Western practitioners became involved in the field of acupuncture.

Electro acupuncture most often uses electrodes placed on various areas of the body, as opposed to inserting needles into the skin.

This is often referred to as the TENS method.

Once the electrodes are in place, varying degrees of electronic stimulation is applied through the use of an electro acupuncture machine.

The different frequencies of electricity being released into your body cause different endorphins to be released and this stimulates pain relief and healing.

What can Electro Acupuncture Treat?

Electro acupuncture has given patients proven relief from a variety of illnesses and injuries.

These include, but are not limited to, insomnia, muscle pain, sciatica, headaches, general lack of energy, as well as assistance in addiction issues for any drug, including tobacco.

In addition, many people have found success by using electro acupuncture for weight loss purposes.

History of Electronic Acupuncture

Electro acupuncture works as an application of pulsating electrical currents connected to acupuncture needles.

It was developed in China in 1934. Occasionally, in electro acupuncture, needles are inserted into the surface of the skin as would normally be done during an acupuncture session, and, after hand stimulation is achieved an electrode is attached to the needle in order to continue stimulation.

Advances in the technology used to create electro acupuncture machines are making the use of needles less and less necessary.

How It Works

According to Chinese literature, electro acupuncture is especially beneficial in the treatment of neurological diseases.

This includes chronic pain, and paralysis.

Electro acupuncture should not be used to treat any type of cardiac illness, as the heart can respond negatively to any kind of electrical impulse.

For this reason, electrodes are not placed near the heart, regardless of the fact that during electro acupuncture a very low level of current is used.

The level of current generally used in electro acupuncture is less than that which is produced by the battery in a wristwatch.

There is virtually no current transmitted throughout the body during electro acupuncture, but there is enough voltage to stimulate the meridian points.

Getting Electro Treatment

Electro acupuncture treatments typically last from 10 - 20 minutes.

While it is rare for an electro acupuncture session to exceed half an hour, occasionally treatments will be longer due to stubborn neurological disorders.

The electrical current may be adjusted by the practitioner to compensate for the body adjusting to the stimulus.

This is normal and occurs in most cases.
